Interface Rig Cleanup Checklist

Phase 1

  1. Turn off 3 tanks: 2 oxygen tanks and 1 nitrogen tank
  2. Turn off the Grass amplifier
  3. Turn off the audio monitor
  4. Turn off the water bath.
  5. Place oxygen tubing and perfusion tubing in DI water in a 500 mL bottle
  6. Wipe gently the chamber lid, the electrodes and the chamber mesh with Kimwipes
  7. Lower the electrodes down to be rinsed with DI water
  8. Run DI water through the control tubing for 5 minute
  9. Run DI water through the drug tubing for 10 minutes

Phase 2

  1. Close Clampex (Note: do this before turning off master switch)
  2. Transfer the recorded files onto the server
  3. Download slice photos into the same folder and finish Markdown notes
  4. Rinse all glassware used with DI water and leave on the rack to dry
  5. Rinse slice pipette and tweezers with DI water and leave on the rig to dry
  6. Rinse all tubing that touched ACSF or NMDG with DI water
  7. Make sure the water bath is turned off
  8. Remove oxygen tubing and perfusion tubing from 500 mL bottle
  9. Let the oxygen tubing dangle on the air table hook (keep it clean!)
  10. Run air through control tubing until the solution reaches the stopcock, switch the stopcock to run air through the drug tubing, then wait for another 5 minutes

Phase 3

  1. Raise the electrodes out of the chamber
  2. Stop the pump and charge the battery
  3. Empty the vacuum flask
  4. Turn off the master switch
  5. Turn off the computer
  6. Turn off the monitors
