Step-by-Step Guide to Making LFP recording devices
- Wrap wire around jig
- Place taped "frets" under wire.
- Cut 4 pieces of plastic that will serve as your LFP electrode holders (plastic is 0.5mm thick).
- Separate the wires on the jig so that they achieve the desired spacing for your target structures.
- Remember that the stereoscope is magnified 2X. Therefore, the measurements in the eyepiece micrometer is doubled (i.e. 1mm = 2mm).
- Be gentle. Make small, dragging movements. Alternate ends.
- Remember that the stereoscope is magnified 2X. Therefore, the measurements in the eyepiece micrometer is doubled (i.e. 1mm = 2mm).
- Place plastic pieces onto strings (on the inside of the fret). Then glue in place with super glue.
- Cut glass tube (electrode casing) to right above length required for target structure (6mm is safe).
- Neuralynx tubing.
- One tube per electrode (corticals don't require glass tube).
- Rule of thumb: less than 2.2mm deep, no glass required.
- Neuralynx tubing.
- Cut wires thrice. On each end near the peg (2X) and down the middle.
- The end result is a rough, working electrode manifold.

- Cut small pieces of tape to hold electrodes.
- Place rough, working electrode down on surface, wire side up. Then tape longer wired end down so that shorter wired end pivots up.
- Slip glass tubes over each subcortical electrode - slide all the way down.
- Once in place, glue use super glue to fasten tubes to plastic piece. Let dry for a few minutes.

- Cut electrode/tubes to desired length to achieve target depth.
- Remember 2X stereoscope magnification. Therefore, for example, if target depth is 5.5mm, then length under eyepiece micrometer should read 11mm.

- Cut A-M Systems, stainless steel wire about 2-2.5cm long and make lasso/hook at the end.
- This piece will serve as a holder.

- Coat plastic manifold with 5 minute epoxy.
- Keep tape on wires so that you can hold it while coating plastic.
- You can dremel wooden end of cotton swap to make cone-shaped applicator.

- Once coated (and before glue has hardened), tape manifold down, with LFP electrodes hanging over the side.
- Then place loop/lasso end of A-M Systems holder onto plastic part, with handle parallel to long wires.
- Let glue dry.
- Keep tape on wires so that you can hold it while coating plastic.
- Strip ends of non-LFP wires (~1mm). These ends will be soldered to the DigiKey manifold.
- Solder wire to appropriate ends of manifold.
- Clamp DigiKey manifold with hemostats. Using A-M Systems holder, twist wires 5-7 times and then situate plastic end in the middle of the DigiKey manifold.
- Once in place, use small strip of tape to hold down A-M Systems holder. Tape all around edge of DigiKey manifold - will have to remove hemostats. Once around, reclamp with hemostats and place electrode down for dental cementing.

- Dental cement the whole shebang.
- Measure electrode resistance. Aiming for >30kOhms.
